The Champagne Valley lies at in the Central Drakensberg and is towered over by two mountains, Cathkin Peak and Champagne Castle. Accessed via the N3 through the villages of Bergville and Winterton, Champagne Valley is a popular family destination for visitors from both Gauteng and Durban. Situated in the Monks Cowl Nature Reserve of the Central Drakensberg, Champagne Valley offers many outdoor pursuits. Hikers are lured here by the challenging climbs and abseiling opportunities available, while family members can enjoy casual rambles through the spectacular countryside, or fishing, swimming, tubing, horse riding, golf or tennis.
The bustling farming town of Winterton forms the gateway to Champagne Valley. The Valley also provides the opportunity for avid bird watchers to find any of the reported 299 recorded bird species found in this region.
